Taxon scores may be entered at any time during key construction and the scores may be revised at any time. The user enters score mode by pressing the score button. ![]()
To score a taxon for a selected state, a score type is chosen and the taxon is simply clicked. Six score types are available:
| absent (if unscored) | |
| common | |
| rare | |
| uncertain | |
| common by misinterpretation | |
| rare by misinterpretation |
Because Lucid can assign any of these scores to a state, it is far more powerful than other identification systems that are restricted to simple present/absent scores. It means that:
taxa that commonly have a particular state are ranked higher in the Player than taxa that only rarely have the state
if you are not sure whether a state exists in the taxon, you are not forced to enter a score of 'absent'
if a state can be misinterpreted (e.g. 'pink' in a faded specimen for 'red' in reality), this need not mislead a key user
There are two score modes available: you can score the states for one taxon at a time, or you can score the taxa for one state at a time.
